Don't Lift too Much Weight too Soon

YouTube is full of weightlifting videos of people lifting weights that they have no business being under. Most people workout with some sort of physical benefit as their goal. (Except for the people who seem to always want to do nothing but talk to you while your squatting a new PR!) Maintaining correct form and technique when lifting is not only important for proper progress but also for safety.

The potential for injury increases as the weights you are using become heavier. Lifting heavy, say for 5 sets of 5, is great but remember to stay within the limits of good form. Adding less weight to your lifts each week/month is not as costly as a back injury.

The next time you feel the temptation to go too heavy think of that guy that exists at every gym, the one who stands in the corner doing full body swing dumbbell curls and pick a lighter weight!

Slow and steady progress is the name of the game, which is especially true the stronger you get.
